Role summary

As a Microsoft Azure and M365 Consultant specialising in Unified Communications, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and optimising solutions that enhance collaboration and productivity within organisations. Your expertise in Microsoft Cloud technologies will enable you to work closely with clients to understand their business needs and provide tailored solutions that drive digital transformation, improve operational efficiency, and ensure robust security and compliance. You will be instrumental in guiding clients through their cloud journey, from initial planning and migration to ongoing support and innovation, helping them leverage the full potential of Azure, Microsoft 365 and Unified Communications to achieve their strategic goals.

Key responsibilities

Consultation and strategy: Work closely with clients to understand their business needs and develop tailored strategies leveraging Microsoft Azure and M365 services.

Solution design: Production of both high and detailed designs for Microsoft Cloud solutions to include Teams Telephony, ensuring they meet business requirements and industry best practices. Contribute towards the Microsoft cloud practice’s portfolio of off-the-shelf offerings.

Implementation and migration: Lead the deployment of Teams Phone systems, including Direct Routing, Operator Connect and Teams Calling Plans. Plan and execute migrations from legacy Telephony systems to Teams Telephony, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations and optimal performance

Integration: Integrate Microsoft Cloud solutions with existing IT infrastructure and third-party applications to provide a cohesive and efficient production environment.

Training and adoption: Conduct training sessions and create documentation to facilitate user adoption and maximise the value of the customer’s investment.

Stay current: Keep up to date with the latest developments in Microsoft Azure, M365, and Unified Communications technologies to provide cutting-edge solutions to clients.

Knowledge & skills

Essential
  • Understanding of cloud architecture and services, including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS

  • Proficiency in Azure services e.g. Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Storage, Azure Networking, and Azure Active Directory Services / Microsoft Entra ID

  • Knowledge of Azure security best practices, including identity and access management, encryption, and compliance

  • Understanding of virtual networks, VPNs, ExpressRoute, and network security groups

  • Deep knowledge of Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive for Business

  • Experience in migrating from on-premises solutions to Microsoft 365, including hybrid setups with Entra ID Connect and ADFS

  • Understanding of M365 security features like Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Advanced Threat Protection (ATP), and compliance management

  • Proficiency in managing identities with Microsoft Entra ID, including multi-factor authentication and conditional access policies

  • Expertise in configuring and optimising collaboration tools like Teams and SharePoint for enhanced productivity

  • Ability to provide support and troubleshoot issues related to M365 services

  • Knowledge of UC technologies, including Microsoft Teams, Skype for Business, and telephony integration

  • Experience with voice and video conferencing solutions, including call quality management and troubleshooting

  • Understanding of network requirements for UC, including QoS, bandwidth management, and firewall configurations

  • Skills in securing UC environments, including encryption, secure signalling, and compliance with data protection regulations

  • Ability to integrate UC solutions with other enterprise systems like CRM and ERP

  • Experience in training users and driving adoption of UC tools within an organisation

Desirable
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools like Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Skills in automation tools and scripting languages such as PowerShell, Azure CLI, and ARM templates

  • Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights for monitoring and managing resources

  • Skills in using Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI to create custom business solutions

  • Microsoft accreditations pertaining to Modern Work, Data and AI, and Azure Infrastructure. E.g. AZ-104, AZ-305, AZ-700, AZ-800+AZ-801, AZ-140, DP-300, AI-102, DP-100, DP-203, PL-300, MB-260, DP-420, MD-102, MS-203, MS-700, MS-500, SC-300 or a willingness achieve one or more of the above

  • Familiar with working to ITIL framework

Experience & Attainments

Essential
  • Proven experience of Azure and M365 design,  deployments and migrations, to include IAAS, PAAS, SAAS, O365 migrations and Cross-tenant migrations

  • Proven experience of configuring Microsoft Teams and Teams Telephony, to include Teams Voice and Video conferencing

  • Experience of Microsoft MDM to include AutoPilot, Device configuration and compliance. Good understanding of Microsoft Cloud security, to include Defender and Microsoft Purview

Desirable
  • Skype for Business to Teams migration experience

  • Knowledge / experience with Microsoft Lync

  • Configuration of Session Border Controllers

  • Experience with Wavenet Teamslink

Additional Requirements

SC Clearance, or willing to attain SC clearance

Microsoft accreditations in Modern Work, Azure Infrastructure or Data and AI, or the willingness to achieve one or more of these
